A Bittersweet Ending

It’s a wrap. School’s out. The kids and staff have gone home.

It’s the end of the 2012-2013 school year, but it’s also the end of an era. In just a couple weeks the building that has beenย  home to thousands of students since 1967 will be torn down.

Replacing it will be a brand new two story building. It’s both a sad and an exciting time all wrapped up in the same package.

Fortunately, Penny and Mina brought in some awesome presents!

    • Hi Shannon,
Yes, isn’t this book just so wonderful? I love the creativity of children!
This building business has been a long process. It started two years ago, when the gym and library were torn down, and the PE teacher and I moved into our temporary spaces. Now, the new building is nearly complete, and move in is only 2 months away. I’ve never taught in a new school, so it’s going to be a fun experience.
      Happy summer to you!
      Julie

  2. Dear Mrs Hembree,

Oh my goodness it really is a bitter sweet end but as one door closes another door is about to open for you and all your wonderful students. Just think how wonderful it is going to be in your brand new library.

I loved Mia reading her wonderful story it really made me smile. As a matter of fact while I was listening to Mia read her beautiful story the sun has just come out. I’m pretty sure here in Australia just loved hearing Mia read her story too.

Well enjoy the warmth of your summer Mrs Hembree and your wonderful students.

Bye from your friend down under,

    • Hello AA,

Mina’s story is certainly wonderful! She was so excited to read it too me and it didn’t take much to convince her to read it again, so I could film her. She loves to write, and will have a busy summer!
Today is the first day of summer and it’s quite chilly. Yesterday it was 58 F and raining. Typical for the Pacific Northwest in June. It will get better soon, I hope!

      Enjoy your weekend!
      JH

  3. Thank you for posting Mina reading her book! She is an amazing student as are ALL Bell students. As our old building falls, we need to remember a house does not make a home-our community does….
