Toppling by Sally Murphy

Do you love to play dominoes? Do you enjoy the clink, clink, clink as dominoes topple in black and white lines? If so, pick up a copy of Toppling by Sally Murphy. Josa donated a copy for our library and wrote the following book review!

John is the main character of this book. He is a boy with an unusual hobby–he likes to set up dominoes and tip th first one and watch them topple in complicated patterns. John’s goal is to win the world record of toppling. then something happens to make John’s world start to topple. His best friend Dominic gets very, very sick. This is a one-of-a-kind story about change, coping and friendship. This is a book for ages 8+ or anyone who wants a good read. It is illustrated very nicely.

I also just finished a book trailer for Toppling! You might recognize some of the actors for the trailer!

  1. Dear Mrs Hembree,

I really enjoyed reading this post, will make a point of looking for this book at our local book store. What a great trailer you produced too. Hope this book has a happy ending.

I have to say I did recognize one of the actors. What a lovely thought from Josa to donate a copy of this book to your library. What a great kid!

I did play dominoes when I was a child and with great delight I would love to build a long line of them and love watching them tip over.

Also I remember watching a show where these people would build huge structures with the dominoes and them knock them over to enable them to get their name in the world record book.

    Take care Mrs Hembree!
Cheers from your friend down under,

I really enjoyed watching your movie trailer you do such an awesome job. I did notice on actor in the movie trailer and it was Josa.

This sounds like a wonderful read Mrs Hembree hope to visit our local library and hope to find it on the shelf so that I can read it too 🙂

    • Dear BB,

Happy New Year! Did you stay up late and see the new year begin?

I’m glad you enjoyed your gift! It took a long time to get there! I read somewhere that you liked a certain music group, so I thought that book might give you some fun reading.

Yes, one of the actors is Josa in the book trailer. He gave me the book and I liked it, which is why I made the trailer! I think Toppling is probably in your library there. It’s an Australian book, but has a different cover I think here in the US.

Are you enjoying the heat and sunshine? I’ve been snow skiing a couple times now with my family! I love being outside in the snow and cold, as long as I am on skis! Do you like the cold or only the hot kind of weather?

      Happy reading!
      Mrs. Hembree

  3. @ Mrs Hembree,
Happy New Year to you and your family too. I stayed up till 11:00pm but last year I stayed up till 1:00am. I did not see the New Year begin sadly. I am glad that you are glad I loved the book. That is cool you read somewhere that I liked One Direction. The One Direction book is fun and interesting. It tells you Who takes the Longest to get dressed and the boys answer. The book Toppling does look Australian book because the uniform they are wearing is one of the Primary Colours in Australia. I sure am enjoying the heat and sunshine. I love hot weather.

    Josa

    • Dear Josa,

Happy New Year! Do you think 2013 is going to be a great year? I do! Did you like staying up until midnight? Was it hard staying up that late?

I am glad you liked the book trailer. The author lives in Australia and saw it too. You and your friends were great actors! Thanks for helping me out!
