Last week our kindergarten, first and second graders were treated to a special visit from children’s author Catherine Follestad. Catherine lives in Arizona, but was in the Seattle area for a visit. Mrs. Banchero knows Catherine and arranged for her to visit our school!
Catherine talked to us about her books. The Itty Bitty Kitty is a story about a kitty that yearns to make friends with other cats who think she is too small. Author and illustrator Catherine Follestad uses her talents to show how Itty Bitty learns a valuable lesson about friendship in her quest to make friends.
I Think I Would Like to Be invites young boys and girls to imagine what they could be. Would you like to be a pirate on the deep blue sea or a race car driver at the Grand Prix? This story is an that will have you flying planes, hitting home runs, and even training lions! This is a book for every child who’s ever thought…I Think That I Would Like To Be…
We enjoyed listening to Catherine read her books to us and many purchased autographed copies! Our library also has both books now, for anyone who would like to check them out. She shared that she has more books in process and her book trailer for The Itty Bitty Kitty will soon air on some children’s television channels. Wow how super cool to have another wonderful author come to visit your school.
I think you are so lucky! I wish when I was at school an author would have come to our school.
Catherine Follestad books sound like a wonderful read to get your imagination going.
I know when I was a young girl I remember reading a novel about a young girl flying all around the world in her parents plane. Once I finished reading this story I wanted to become a flight attendant. Sadly I never did but I sure did love to dream about flying all over the world.

It was a wonderful opportunity for young students to meet an author! You are so right about that!
We have another connection! When I was young I didn’t read the same book, but it must have been another one. I wanted to be a flight attendant too! I love to travel, so I thought it would be the best job in the world to work for an airline and help people get places.
For one reason or another that idea didn’t happen, but I do have the best job now as a librarian! I couldn’t be happier!

Last night I went for a drive with my husband in our convertible. It was a beautiful fall evening and the leaves are just now starting to turn colors. We were out in the country and noticed some cars stopped on the side of the road. We of course looked too!
There in a large field were 3-4 dozen elk eating the grass. I counted over a dozen bulls with the gigantic antlers on their heads. The males, or bulls, were bugling to the other elk. It was quite a sight to see and hear! I don’t know if you have elk in Australia. They are bigger than deer, but a bit smaller than moose. It was a spectacular nature show!
