From Russia With Love!

This week we received a package from our blogging buddies in Kansk, Russia!

Kansk is a town on the bank of the Kan River in the central part of Russia.  The package took 2 months to get here!

As you can see on the map, Kansk is VERY far from Seattle, Washington, USA!

Our town  is just a few miles from Seattle!

We were very excited to open our package. Ms. V’s class has been blogging with our Russian Blog buddies, so they got to see FIRST what was inside the box!

We received a cute teddy bear, some stickers, a Russian nesting doll, and a flag!

Here is a movie that shows what was inside our package!

We are now planning what to send back to them!

Have you ever received a surprise gift? What did you get?

How long do you think it will take for our box to arrive in Russia?

Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!

  1. How fabulous! I am so glad students from other parts of the world are communicating with the students at Bell. What other country will you be blogging with next? Maybe you should try Guatemala!

    • Hi Mrs. Woodruff,
We comment on lots of blogs around the world, except I have not found one from Guatemala yet. That would be a great idea!
If you know of a school tht blogs there, please let me know!

  2. Dear Mrs. Hembree,
What a great video! I’m so excited to see how you and Ms. Valenta’s students are connecting with other students from around the world. That is really special. I think that sending some US coins would be fun. I love collecting money from around the world and they might like it too! Have fun blogging.

    • Dear Mrs. Adair,
Thank you for your idea of sending some American coins! I have some coins from different countries around the world. I forgot how much fun it is to look at those coins. You gave us a great suggestion! I will have to see if I can find a Washington state quarter.

  3. This is so exciting! I am going to have my 6th graders brainstorm to think of the best thing that we could sent to represent Kirkland. I am so proud of Ms. Valenta’s class for blogging!

    • Dear AA,
How nice to hear from you again! Yes, I love the nesting dolls and our students were so amazed at how small the baby is on the very inside.
Blogging makes the world so much smaller.

  5. Dear Mrs Hembree,
    Awesome post.

I loved your gifts that you received from Russia.

    I loved watching your Animoto.

The music on the Animoto really rocked.

When I received my parcel from Mrs Lynch I was so excited. I loved all the treats Mrs Lynch sent me too.

My favourite item you received in your parcel is the Teddy Bear. He/she is soo cute.

    From your blogging pal.
    Bianca.

    • Dear BB,
Thank you for the compliment about our Animoto movie! Aren’t they fun to make? I also like making Photopeach movies.
The teddy bear is very cute and cuddly. It is now sitting in a special cabinet in our library. Bears are a symbol of Siberia, Russia.
We are trying to decide what a symbol of Washington state would be. What would you choose as a symbol of where you live?
      Your Washington Blogging Buddy,

  6. Dear Bulldog Readers,

What a fantastic gift you received from your Russian friends! Isn’t educational blogging the best! My favorite item would have to be the matryoshka doll. They are always fun to open and reassemble. The painting is quite beautiful on it as well.

Thanks, too, for visiting our class blog and leaving quality comments! We appreciate your time and thoughtfulness.

    • Dear Mrs. Yollis,
I don’t know who was more thrilled about our special package, the students or me! Yes, I agree that educational blogging is terrific. My students have learned more about geography this year because it’s authentic and relevant to our blog.
We found out that our teddy bear is a symbol of Siberia, Russia. We are trying to decide what is symbolic of Seattle and Washington state. What would your students put in a box that is a symbol of California?

      Mrs. Hembree

  7. How exciting to receive a package from the other side of our planet!. I thoroughly enjoyed the Animoto video you created about what your Russian bloggers sent. What do you think you’ll choose that’s symbolic of Seattle and the Northwest? smoked salmon? Mt. Rainier? the Space Needle? Native American art?

  8. Dear Mrs. Hembree,

I felt very fortunate to be in the classroom with you when you opened your package! I get goosebumps thinking about this! Thank you so much for teaching our children such amazing things. I have been thinking about what to send the Russian children, and I thought maybe AG Bell pencils would be kind of nice.

    From,
    Gina Solis

  10. @ Mrs Hembree,

Thank you for writing back to me. I alway like to hear from you.

You asked me an interesting question and my answer is a Kangaroo.
I picked the Kangaroo because everyone knows what a Kangaroo is and where it comes from.

What do you think Mrs Hembree. 🙂

    From your blogging buddy,
    BB.

  11. Dear BB,
I think a kangeroo is a very appropriate choice for you. Everyone knows that kangeroos live in Australia. I think another choice might be a koala bear. When I see pictures of them, they seem so cute and cuddly!
My students decided the American Bald Eagle is the animal that best represents the USA. Lucky for us in Washington, we can see them all the time! There are lots of bald eagles that live in the coastal parts of Washington state. They are a huge, magestic bird and I never tire of seeing them!
    From your American blogging buddy,
    Mrs. Hembree
