Have you ever wondered what those kindergarten students do when they come to the library? Well, we do lots of things like read books, learn about authors, talk about book to book connections AND ….we sing, clap and rhyme and have fun! In October I had the opportunity to go to the Washington Library Media Association conference. While there I went to a fabulous session where I learned from Arika Dickens, the presenter, how to do “Rhyme time fingers”. We have been rhyming and clapping and singing our nursery rhymes ever since! Each week we learn a new nursery rhyme and then practice the ones we have learned in previous weeks. Our kindergarten students are really improving their rhythm and reading skills! Check out this short video that shows a group in action!
