It’s a New School and New Year!

Greetings from my new school! I have a slightly new name for my blog to incorporate the mascot for my new school. The Bulldog Readers would like to welcome the Bobcats to this blog! We are going to read and learn together this year. Thank you to Summer M. Tribble for the Creative Commons photo of these bobcat kittens. “Bobcat-Texas-9110” by Summer M. Our first mission is participating in International Dot Day. All week we are celebrating the fabulous book The Dot by Peter Reynolds and taking on the challenge of making our mark and seeing where it takes us.

  3. What a fabulous idea! We Bobcats are so glad to be collaborating with you again this year, Mrs. Hembree! Today is our first day of Dot celebration, so we’ll come look at the blog as we create our art!

    • Hi Judy and Josa,
Thanks for the welcome! So….what’s on the recommended reading list? I just got a copy of A Night Divided by Jennifer Nielsen. Haven’t read it yet, but on the weekend to do list. I’m busy genrefying the new library. Fantasy is 98% done. Now to figure out the next category to mark! Any suggestions?
      Mrs. H

      • Mrs. Hembree,

We have not read A Night Divided but will add it to our list : ) Next up for us is the new Brian Selznick book called The Marvels which may take us a length of time as it’s 600 pages! Well…300 gorgeously illustrated pages and 300 pages of text.
Is Fantasy the largest genre in your library? Josa says that you should do Sports fiction next –it is Seahawks season after all…
You must be excited to share some of your favorite books with your new students : )
        Judy and Josa

        • Dear Josa and Judy,
Sports is a great idea for this time of year! I will get on it! Yes, Fantasy is definitely the largest section in the library. I’m amazed at how many books there are for students to read.
I read your recommendation and purchased The Marvels, but haven’t started it yet. I read A House Divided and Sunny Side Up this weekend. They are very different books for sure! One is historical fiction story about a family that becomes physically divided when the Berlin Wall goes up. It brought back a lot of memories of when I visited East Berlin and had to cross the Berlin Wall at Checkpoint Charlie.
The other book Sunny Side up by Jennifer and Matt Holm is a graphic novel about a girl who visits her grandfather in Florida one summer. It wasn’t the summer she dreamt of, but we learn through flashbacks what’s been happening in her family that has made her so sad. I highly recommend both.
          Next up….The Marvels!

  4. Welcome back,

So glad to read that you have set up a new blog with your new school. I love the new blog and I think it is Bobcat-tastic.

What book are your reading Mrs Hembree? At present I am reading The Maze Runner.
At the moment I am on school holidays and am enjoying the break. I really love High School because of all the different subjects I am doing.
Hope your new school goes well. Those kids are so lucky to have you.

Thinking of you often Mrs Hembree.
    From your friend in Australia,
    BB.

    • Dear BB –
Do you see me doing the Happy Dance here in Washington? I am so thrilled to hear from you! I love the term Bobcat-tastic! You have always had a gift for words.
I just finished A Night Divided by Jennifer Nielsen (see comment below). I haven’t read The Maze Runner, although I’ve had many recommendations to add it to my reading list. Do you like it?
What subjects are you doing this next term? Do they vary a lot by term or continue throughout the year? Are you still involved with drama?
How is that awesome dog of yours? Still full of energy?
I think of you oftern as well and wish you well on this last term for 2015!
      Your WA friend,
      Mrs. Hembree

  5. Dear Mrs Hembree,
I am so glad to hear from you, I loved your happy dance you looked very happy! I would have loved to participate! Thank you for saying I have a gift for words. A Night Divided sounds like an awesome book, What is the Plot about? The Maze Runner is an exhilarating book and is very intense book as each chapter you read you never want to put the book down.

Next Term I am doing lots of subjects, for example; Food Technology, English, Humanities etc. I don’t get to choose my subjects but in Year 9 I do. My subjects change twice a year. I am still involved in Drama I am enjoying it, My annual Drama Concert involves Pirates, which revolves around the movie Pirates of Penzance.

My dog (Hack) is still full of energy and loves going to the beach on hot days as relaxing and swimming in the water. How is your dog? and Is your dog still full of energy like Hack?

    Best Wishes,
    BB.
