3D Magna Tiles
The MagnaTiles are the most popular item in our Makespace area. Sometimes huge castles are built using every tile available.
Today a group of students documented the process for building one of their MagnaTile castles, using the Lego MovieMaker app on the iPad. I received the iPad last spring after one of my Donor’s Choose projects was funded.
This Lego app simplifies the process for making stop motion movies. At recess all I had to do was open the app, hand over the iPad to the students and get out of the way.
They quickly set up the photography station and worked together to build this castle. In about 20 minutes they had their castle built and movie created.

Now I’m wondering what other kinds of stop motion movies will be made in the coming weeks!
What a fabulous way to make stop motion movies – I love this! I’ve never used it before. I do so love coming across something new like this, and am already busy thinking about how we can use it ourselves!

If your students use iPads, they will love this app! It’s easy and so much fun to create stop motion movies of anything. It was designed for Legos, but you don’t have to use it for that. The boys want to add music next time, but they didn’t have time on this first experience.

We have just received our set of ipad minis and are looking for great apps that will engage our students! I can’t wait to try the Lego Movie Maker…On another note I noticed that you are using magazine holders to mark your NF sections. What all to you have on the boxes? I need to update my section and am looking for new ideas.

First of all, I love that name! It brings such calming images to mind.
Another app you might enjoy is Photo Mapo. Using the GPS settings of the photo, it adds a map background and space for a brief caption.
Yes, I’m using magazine holders. They are about 8 years old now. I made a cover sheet that has the section name, photo, and Dewy number or range.Each Dewey section has a different color.
