  1. I had a wonderful experience going to this school in the slums of Mumbai and saw these most amazing kids. The school was a school run by two nuns for poor kids who pay $8/month and about 50 orphans who live and study there for free based on donations.

I had to park the car and walk through the village/slum to the school which was a building that probably is far from near passing any building codes in the U.S. The school was 2 floors with about 10 rooms – and each room was a classroom to 30-40 kids in each. Each room runs into the other (no hallways). One enters through the “kitchen”. They did even have a computer room donated by a company.

The experience broke my heart. The kids were so cheerful, and thankful for the books and I will load up some pictures once I am back. The sisters (two nuns) who run the school had me come and visit each classroom and each class sang a song (“We are happy” and other numbers). I did take some video shots that I shall post also. I did give a small donation to the nuns. Oh the kids all wear uniforms – a tradition so that kids cannot distinguish the wealthy from the not so wealthy in Indian schools at large.

It was a moving experience. I will go back when I am back in Mumbai again and perhaps even collect some funds and send money. The joy of these kids was most amazing, True to Indian traditions they were calling me hello sir or hello uncle – where one generally calls anyone older uncle.

Well thank you for asking me to take the books. It was truly a heart moving experience. I will never forget the cheerful nature of these kids living in squalor. I will email Sister Eliza thanking her for the visit.
