Look in the Baskets!
Finding a perfect book to read is as easy as looking in a …..
Our early chapter book readers don’t have any trouble finding books to read because we have them all in baskets where they are easy to find! Like Junie B. Jones? Find the basket? Like Magic Tree House?
Find the basket! It really is easy as one, two, three!
In class we also have done lessons on all of the easy chapter book series available in our library! Using a worksheet with only some of the letters of book series typed in, students had to sleuth out the answers!
By the time everyone finished the paper, they had found all of our early chapter book series. We have over 20 different series to choose from! Now when someone says, “I need a good book“, we all respond, “Look in the baskets!”

Finding books in a basket is a pretty easy way to find books, don’t you think? It make it easy to flip through them all!

Dear Mrs Hembree and Bulldog readers,
What a super collection you have in your library baskets of chapter books.
I think this a wonderful and much easier way to find chapter books which you enjoy reading.
As for me when I was at school if ever I wanted to read a chapter book I would need to know the authors surname and then look for it on the book shelf.
Nine times out of ten I was not able to find the chapter book so I would end up borrowing a totally different chapter book to read.
I really like yours in baskets it makes it so easy to choose.
Last year for Christmas Bianca received a set of Bindi books and I have really enjoying these chapter books.

Dear AA,
Thank you for sharing your story about how you find books at school. I know I get frustrated sometimes when I can’t find what I want! I like seeing the covers of the books. I know I’m not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but sometimes I do! The cover makes me open the book and look inside!
We have a couple of the Bindi books in the library and I have some Tashi books on order. Are there others we should consider?

One of my favorite early chapter books is Junie B. Jones. My favorite Junie B. Jones book is, The Stupid Smelly Bus. At my library at school we arrange books on shelfs.

Dear Bulldog Readers,
We like the idea of your book baskets. Our library has the books arranged on shelves. They are in alphabetical order from a to z. There are numbers on each book that tell us its location when we look it up. We use the Destiny card catalog to search for books. In many of our classroom libraries, we do use book baskets to help us organize our stories. We love the Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Big Nate series’.
We have stickers on some of the books to let us know if it is an Accelerated Reader book. Do you have Accelerated Reader at your school?

Thank you for your great comment about our book baskets! We have a different system than most libraries, but it works for us. We like the baskets for our early chapter book series. it makes it easy to find the books.
Then we have our other fiction books shelved by genre. We had a post about that a couple weeks ago.
Some of our books have AR stickers, but not all of them. We used to do AR but not this year because it became too expensive for our school.
I think you are similar to our 4th graders because they like Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Big Nate too! have you ever read any Lunch Lady books? They are funny too!

In my grade we have a book basket too where we can borrow extra books as well as from the library.
Many favourite chapter book is Tashi book your bulldog readers will love reading Tashi.

Dear Bianca,
I can only find one Alice Miranda book available here. The others cost outrageous amounts. One is $81.44 and the other is $112.08! I can’t afford those prices! So, Alice Miranda will be our only choice now!

Thank you for taking the time to write back to me.
I can suggest some other chapter books which I did buy Bianca about three years ago they are called Pearlie books written by Wendy Harmer.
These chapter books are so beautiful.
It is about a little fairy called Pearlie who lives in Jubilee Park. She always seems to get unexpected visitors from all works of life. They always seem to get into a bit of trouble and Pearlie been the good fairy helps them out.

Yet another wonderful feature of your library. I love that your early chapter books are in baskets. That is how I display the chapter books in my classroom as well. I would love to see something like that in our library.
The students in my class who are reading early chapter books are fond of the Rainbow Magic series, Magic Tree House, Jigsaw Jones, Henry and Mudge, and Dinosaur Cove.
All this talk of books has me wanting to go curl up with a good book of my own! I am currently reading the 39 Clues series.
