Pigeon Travels 6,500 miles!

Pigeon and I just got back from two weeks of traveling around New England!

We had lots of fun and saw so many things. Between a plane ride to Boston, 500 miles driving around New England and a plane ride back, Pigeon logged over 6,500 miles on our trip! I think he will be taking a long nap before school starts again!

There were so many highlights to our trip, that I decided a movie would be the best way to share them!

Be sure to look closely because Pigeon is in most of the photos! He went on a lobster boat ride, saw the Pilgrim Monument in Provincetown, visited the University of Southern Main where Mrs. Hembree went to college, almost got bit by a horse, and posed with a real Bay City steam shovel!

You will also see a  key chain attached to my purse.

This key chain of Australia was a very special gift from BB,one of our blogging buddies! Enjoy the show!

What was your favorite photo in the movie?

Did you do any traveling this summer?

Did you do any reading this summer?

    Dear Mrs. Hembree and Pigeon,

Wow! That was an amazing trip! Thanks so much for sharing your adventure with all of your readers! I’ve never been to Massachusetts or Maine, so I really enjoyed seeing the photos.

There were several photos that I liked! The one of you and Mr. Avery was great! 🙂 It’s wonderful when we get to meet our blogging buddies in real life! I also loved the one of Pigeon on the anchor and the death defying horse photo! Watch out Pigeon! However, I think my favorite one was the photo of you with two lobsters! So New England! 🙂

I had a wonderful summer as well. You flew east, and I flew west! My 50th birthday trip was to the 50th state, Hawaii! It was tremendous because I got to do one of my favorite hobbies…snorkeling. Even though I live close to the ocean, the water here is cold and not very clear. The Hawaiian water was lovely! I have a few posts about my adventures on the class website. Here is a link to the one called:

    Mrs. Yollis Swims with Turtles!

The photos of you on the lobster boat were so interesting. How long do you leave the traps in the water? How deep to they go? How many can you trap in one cage?

    Thanks for a great post!

    • Dear Mrs. Yollis,
What a wonderful comment! It got hung up in a different folder by accident, so I am glad you helped me find it!

It’s fun to have memorable vacations! On my 50th, I flew even farther east and went to Paris and toured around the heartland of France and visited friends in Germany! My daughter came with me and she celebrated her 21st birthday and I celebrated my 50th birthday!

You have some great questions about the lobster traps and to tell you the truth, I don’t know the answers. However, I am curious, and so now will ask my cousin. I do know that he measures the depth in fathoms. Have you heard of this term? He also measures how fast his boat is moving in knots. Knots and fathoms are boating terms, and while I have heard of them, I have to use a converter into feets and miles per hour, to understand them completely.

I do know that one time my cousin caught a blue lobster, which is very rare. I just read about one in a new book by Cynthia Lord called Touchblue. It’s set on an island in Maine and I it might be a good read aloud during your ocean unit.

Have a wonderful start to your new school year!
      Your Seattle Pal,
      Mrs. Hembree

  2. Aloha Mrs. Hembree and Pigeon!
I have missed your tweets & now I know why, you were on that wonderful vacation! I absolutely love the blue water and the blue sky and am so happy you had such wonderful weather for your trip.
I did a little traveling myself this summer. I spent a week in Philadelphia and a week in Boston. It was an enjoyable time and if Boston didn’t have snow I could easily live there.
Since I got my iPad I have been devouring books, enjoy reading so much!
Welcome back and looking forward to reading about your new class.
    A hui hou,
    Mrs. Jacobs

    • Hello Mrs. Jacobs,
So nice to hear from you! Phily and Boston are so different from Hawaii for sure! We all like different places don’t we? I like Hawaii, except that it doesn’t snow there! I love the cold weather, changing of the seasons and all the fun you can have in snow!
Did you have a favorite experience in Boston? Have any beans or clam “chowda” or “lobsta”?
I had a wonderful time visiting all of my family and taking my friend Pigeon sightseeing!
Have a wonderful start to your new year!
      Mrs. Hembree

  3. Dear Mrs Hembree,
    Awesome post.

I found pigeon sixteen times and I thought I would find pigeon once but I didn’t.

I found the keychain and I was pleased to see it on your handbag.

The horse looked like it was about to eat pigeon.

I felt like I was with you on the trip.

Mr Avery used to be 3DD’s blogging buddy.

My favourite photo in the Animoto was when you and Mr Avery had a photo together.

I loved your animoto and the places you and pigeon visited they were really beautiful. I hope one day I will visit these places and meet you as well and have a photo together. 🙂
I have not done any travelling this Winter.

I have been reading Cosmo and the magic spell.

Cosmo is a cat and he has to save his brothers and sisters before they get turned into frogs.

    From your pal,
    BB.

    • Hi BB,
Wow – you counted all the Pigeon sightings! I hadn’t done that yet! I hope someday you can come to America and see the wonderful places here and of course meet some of the people you have come to know through blogging!

I agree that one of my favorite photos is with Mr. Avery! We had lots of fun talking about blogging. The minutes flew by and suddenly I had to leave! It was a short but great visit.

One of my other favorite photos is Pigeon on the Bay City Steam Shovel. When I was a little girl, I loved reading Mike Mulligan and the Steam Shovel. This Bay City steam shovel is a similar one to the one in the story.

It sounds like you are reading a great book. I don’t have a book started at the moment, but I know that will change this afternoon!

Happy Reading and ALWAYS great to hear from you!
      Mrs. Hembree

  4. Dear Mrs Hembree and Pigeon,

What a super holiday you both have had!
I just loved watching your animoto slide show.

The places you shared with us on your animoto were just beautiful. My favourite photo was the one where you were sitting high up on top of the cray pots reading! Now I do hope it was you. 🙂
    Talk about been brave.

I haven’t done any reading this week as its been a very funny week lots of thing have been going. However will start a book this weekend.
Will get back to you on this question.

It would just awesome if one day you and BB could meet. Have to put this on my list of things to do.

Happy holiday and happy reading too.
    From your pal down under,
    AA. 🙂

    • Dear AA,
I’m glad you like the lobster trap photo! My cousin who is the Captain of the boat suggested it. I had to get over my fear of heights climbing up on top! At least I just had to sit there, so it really wasn’t too dangerous!

Soon we will be back to school! Our official first day is September 6th. I have a few more days off and then it gets really busy again!

I hope that our families can meet sometime!
      From,
      Mrs. Hembree
P.S. Sorry for the quick reply – Reese is barking at me to take him to the dog park!

  5. @ Mrs Hembree,

Thanks for taking the time to write back to me. 🙂

That is fine for we have a dog in our family who does the same thing for if we don’t take him for a walk he really does get his nose out of joint.

Well done climbing onto of all those grates and getting over you fear of heights. Now how did you go climbing back down Mrs Hembree?

Hope you and Reese had a lovely walk with the warm sun as today is a beautiful day here in Geelong. Its so good to have some warmth and sun back. I have to admit I do like the cold.

    Take care Mrs Hembree
    from AA.

  7. Dear Mrs. Hembree and Pigeon,

    Wow! 6,500 miles…that’s some trip!

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the video about your vacation. The photo of you and Mr. Avery was great! Isn’t it fun to meet our Twitter and blogging friends in person!

The photo of Pigeon on the anchor was cute, and I also loved the death-defying horse picture. Watch out Pigeon!

My favorite shot of all was the one of you with the two lobsters! I’m curious about the lobster trapping. How deep did you drop the cages? How long do they stay at the bottom? So curious!

You flew east…and I flew west! I traveled to the fiftieth state for my fiftieth birthday! Here is a link to a video I just publish about the fish I saw in Hawaii!

    Snorkel With Mrs. Yollis!

Thanks, again, for a great post! I’m also enjoying all the reading pictures…so cute!
