Super Skype Session
Jun 3rd
Yesterday the Bulldog Readers skyped with Mrs. Yollis’s class in California!
Mrs. Yollis has a fabulous classroom blog with her third graders near Los Angeles, California!
Los Angeles is a large city in Southern California!
This was our first experience with Skyping. This is how it looked in our library!
Ms. Gibitz, our music teacher, showed us how to make a video call snapshot!
She also lead the class in a song at the end of our Skype session.
Thank you Ms. Gibitz!
We had a share and compare learning session. Each class prepared answers to questions about our state, communit and school. Then during the video call, we shared our information! Students came to the front of the library and talked into the laptop computer. The laptop had the camera so the students in Mrs. Yollis’s class could see and hear us.
Sometimes students came in pairs, and sometimes they came by themselves.
We learned that we have come things in common.
-
Washington and California have coastlines on the Pacific Ocean.
-
We both have mountains that are over 14,000 feet high!
-
Our communities are suburbs of large cities.
-
Pizza is the favorite hot lunch for everyone!
-
We play wall ball and they play hand ball, but it’s really the same game.
And…..
Mascots are important to both classes!
Panda and Reese had a chance to meet each other!
We hope that this experience is just the beginning to Skyping with other students around the country and the world. Technology really can open doors and let us virtually meet each other!
The students in California also recorded the Skype session with TodaysMeet.
They used a second computer to backchannel the session.
Thank you Alexa, Iman, Adia, Ryan, Amitai, and Miriam for documenting the Skype call on TodaysMeet.
Here is the transcript.
